Overview

The Red House Hotel is a popular stopping point on the A94 between Perth and Forfar. It is in the centre of Coupar Angus (4 miles south of Blairgowrie on the A94 Perth to Forfar road). The car park is right beside the main road and there are plenty of spaces on the occasions we've been there. There are some disabled parking places, but they are some distance from the main door. We were able to park with space to open the door fully to allow space to get the wheelchair out of the back and up to the passenger door. Access the restaurant is on the level through double swing doors. The lunch menu had options to tempt most palates, plus daily specials on the blackboard. Service was friendly and efficient. Unfortunately there do not seem to be any disabled toilet facilities in the main building with the bar and restaurant. You have to get a member of staff to walk with you an accommodation block, unlock it, and wait to take you back. Something that the helpful staff member recognised was far from ideal. There is only one handrail at the toilet and it is low. So it was quite a struggle to stand up from my wheelchair. Given the popularity of the venue, lack of disabled toilet facilities in the main building is disappointing. Especially since access has clearly been a priority with level access, or ramps, at the doors.

Toilets

Disappointingly, there is no disabled toilet in the main building. You have to get a member of staff to walk you across the car park and open an accommodation block. I think the hand rails could do with review to help with standing up from a wheelchair.

Staff

There staff were excellent, although clearly aware that the lack of a disabled toilet in main block was inconvenient.
