The Mary Rose

Main Road, Portsmouth, PO1 3PY, United Kingdom | 02392812931 | Website

Venue Description

The Mary Rose Museum is a world-class maritime archaeological museum located in the heart of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The museum features the only 16th Century warship on display in the world – Henry VIII’s flagship, The Mary Rose – and brings its remarkable story to life in vivid detail, all housed in a state-of-the-art fully accessible building. Offering a unique insight into life aboard, the museum provides a snapshot of Tudor life. In 1982 the Mary Rose Trust successfully raised the hull of the vessel to, up until that point, one of the biggest television audiences in history after the largest underwater archaeological excavation ever undertaken. The Mary Rose reopened in 2016 after a series of capital works to enable the ship to be displayed in all her glory. Set across three levels, panoramic glass provides stunning uninterrupted views of the Mary Rose, providing an unparalleled backdrop for the museum galleries to tell the story of the men who lived, worked and died aboard.
