Venue Description

The Octagon Theatre is owned and operated by South Somerset District Council and presents a programme of varied performances from touring companies. The theatre houses a 622 seat auditorium, a studio for meetings and classes, an exhibition space and a cafe/bar and prides itself on bringing top quality entertainment to the heart of Somerset. Each year over 180,000 people are welcomed into the building.

Accessibility

Disabled visitors have step free access to the foyer, cafe/bar and auditorium areas of the theatre - access to the cafe/bar and the back of the auditorium is via a lift.

Accessible Performances

We have a limited number of accessible performances - which are dependant on our programme. Usually these involve a British Sign Language translator interpreting the performance from the side of the stage. Our Christmas pantomime for 2015 features a StageText captioned performance.

Toilets

Our accessible toilet is located on the groud floor with step free access for all types of wheelchair. The toilet has an easy turn lock, hand rails and an emergency alarm.

Staff

Staff at The Octagon Theatre pride themselves on being welcoming and striving to assist all of our visitors as far as we can. We are happy to doggy-sit guide dogs where neccessary and can gladly offer visitors an infra-red hearing loop system as well as guidance about our auditorium's wheelchair spaces.
