The Sound of Music has a special place in Nottingham Operatic Society’s history. Nottingham Operatic Society last performed Rodgers & Hammerstein’s blockbuster musical in 1970, only three years after the original production starring Jean Bayless and Constance Shacklock had closed in London. We were the first amateur society to stage the show, and we are delighted to bring it back once again to the Theatre Royal in Autumn 2019, to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary.

The Sound of Music remains one of the top three most successful films in history, and could be the world’s most popular musical, translated into dozens of languages, with record-breaking productions still touring across the world.

Telling the uplifting true story of the von Trapp Family Singers, you can enjoy this unforgettable score once again – Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, MyFavourite Things, Edelweiss and The Sound of Music. This will be the perfect half-term family treat, so be sure to book your seats soon.
