Venue Description

We are a small independent museum, located in Ullapool, housed in an iconic Thomas Telford Church, and explore how people in Lochbroom lived, worked and played through the ages. We are a family friendly museum and welcome visitors of all ages to explore our past. We have extensive records of The Hector, the ship dubbed Canada's Mayflower, which sailed from Lochbroom in 1773, and a significant archive of family histories of the local area. Our in house genealogy volunteers can assist you in research of our own family in the area. With exhibits on the Clearances, the Klondykes and Crofting history we offer a range of information on the Lochbroom area.

Accessibility

Entrance - Double door accessible by wheelchair. Ground Floor exhibit with Wheelchair access throughout Ground Floor Upper Floor - Kids Play area, items can be brought downstairs if required Lochbroom Story, video can be shown on downstairs bounce pads. Museum records can be brought downstairs if required Toilet - Disabled toilet off main exhibition area, with red pull cord.

Accessible Performances

We can arrange for videos to be shown on the ground floor, We have a limited amount of audio sources at the moment but hoping to increase this in the future. Our Lochbroom Story is covered by a song and no voice audio covers it.

Toilets

Doors are wide doors and both manual and electric wheelchairs can access. Grab rails are positioned at either side of the toilet and on the back of the door Easy Turn handles are in place Both hand dryer and Sink are at a level accessible to wheelchair users. Red Pull Cord is easily reached and checked regularly.

Staff

One of our staff has been a long term health professional and can communicate easily with a variety of disabilities, they also have basic makaton skills and can finger spell in BSL, however we are planning on having training within the next year to help with those skills.
