Overview

Overall a really good experience. Getting inside was difficult, and there were a couple of problems with the accessible toilet.

Transport & Parking

Wahaca is very near Brixton Tube station, which is fully step-free, and in Brixton there are zillions of bus routes which can drop you off practically outside the restaurant. Most, but not all, London buses are equipped with working, usable wheelchair ramps.

Access

I had a problem getting inside the restaurant. Step-free access is via a side door in a tiny side street. The pavement leading to the side door is narrower than a wheelchair so I had to approach from the road, bump up onto the pavement and then ride up a small bump into the restaurant. The staff keep this side door locked so it was a hassle having to get someone to unlock the door to let me in. There isn't much room between tables and staff kept banging into the back of my wheelchair with their legs: more alertness needed! For these hassles, one star lost.

Toilets

A lovely, modern, spacious accessible toilet. Two problems: 1) a huge bin had been placed in the wheelchair transfer area, making it hard to transfer to the toilet. 2) Someone had tidied the red emergency cord out of reach. This is silly and dangerous. It should hang freely all the way to the floor in case someone falls over during the often precarious transfer from wheelchair to toilet and needs to summon assistance. In the case of serious injury during a fall, this can be a life-and-death matter. Wahaca have promised to fix both these issues.

Staff

Apart from constantly banging into the back of my wheelchair, the staff were attentive, helpful, patient, courteous and adorable. They made the meal a happy experience.

If you think you don't like Mexican food, this restaurant will make you think again. The food was superb!
