Overview

Westburn is a tennis centre in Aberdeen with four indoor courts. The courts are in good condition and they allow the wheelchair tennis players to store their wheelchair in the centre, but access is pretty basic.

Transport & Parking

There are disabled parking bays at the centre, but it can be difficult to get from the spaces to the centre if you are pushing a sports chair. There is a slight camber at the back of each parking space which can make it difficult to get things in and out of the boot.

Access

There is level access in and out of the centre and around the inside of the centre, but the entrance doors are heavy and have to be opened manually. There is a lift to gain access to the spectating area, which is an added bonus.

Toilets

There is an accessible loo which had everything I needed to use. It was quite tight though, so people with a larger wheelchair might struggle to get around in it.

Staff

The staff were helpful when asked to help, but they weren't needed for things very often. They are used to supporting the wheelchair sports groups, so had things organised for us arriving.

I really enjoyed the trip and would recommend the wheelchair tennis group to anyone who would like to get involved. It runs all year round, so get in touch with the centre for more information if you are interested.
