August Review roundup

Inside the old Tannery café and community Social enterprise.

Welcome to the August Review Roundup a summary of some of the inspiring reviews that we have received this month from our amazing reviewers. We would like to start with a huge thank you to everyone who submitted a review this month. It has been one of our busiest months of the year! We couldn’t do it without you.

Places to stay We had a five star review from Lottie,2204 of the Whitemoor Lakes hotel in Litchfield. She comments on the access within the hotel: “All 1 floor so no lift needed, wide doorways but some were heavy, no major lips in doorways, doors had handles so easy to open, there are disabled rooms that have wet rooms and shower chairs upon request.”

Another five star review was written by RogerBurne who visited the Lake Country House Hotel in Powys. There is an accessible lodge which he reviewd for us. “There is just one fully accessible ground floor suite in the lodge with wet room which we use. The only disadvantage is that the lodge is 50 yards from the main house.”

The Oakesmere comes highly recommended by georgie555 who wrote a 4.5 star review. “The room and bathroom are very spacious with grab rails that can be moved closer or higher and plenty of space to wheel a large chair around.” This review also has some very helpful photographs showing the layout of the room and bathroom, which gives a clear idea to anyone visiting for the first time.

Places to visit A five star review was written by Katherine, who is a new reviewer and had visited Buxton Opera house and pavilion Arts Centre. Katherine really enjoyed her visit to the centre and commented: “Everyone was extremely helpful. My assistance dog was very well cared for during the performance….. Can't wait to return.”

Another new reviewer, MajarMinors, sent us a five star review of the Museum of East Dorset, where she attended an accessible clay workshop with her family. “The volunteers were friendly and made every effort to engage and encourage the children. It was definitely the best clay workshop we have attended. The teacher was excellent and ensured all children learnt relevant techniques and challenged others to have fun with their ideas.” Read the review to find out more about the museum.

Edinburgh is well known for the Fringe Festival, which takes place every summer in different parts of the city. A five star review was sent to us by Crowley who thoroughly enjoyed a performance of Les Misérables at Edinburgh Academy. “A wonderful performance Les Misérables School Edition. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with absolutely no challenges or obstacles.” Find out more about the performance and  The Fringe Festival

Places to eat An excellent five star review came from Starling14, who visited what she called “an unexpected gem” in her review of The Old Tannery which is located inside the Red Brick Building in Glastonbury. This building was formerly a sheepskin factory and is now a community social enterprise, with a restaurant and different community events. “The staff were really accommodating and led us to our table on the terrace which looked out onto the garden and farmland below.”

If you fancy something a bit more unusual TT highly recommends Gatineau in Oxford, which is a French bakery with accessible toilets. “Delicious products if a bit pricey.” We love a posh pastry!

After visiting the north of Scotland on holiday Tina Hodgkinson sent us a five star review of the Contented Vine in Kelso. “Charming and very accessible family run restaurant in the centre of Kelso offering European food.”
