Venue Description

Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) is one of Scotland’s top sports facilities, providing opportunities for the local, national & international community to take part in sport & exercise. It comprises of Olympic-standard Swimming & Diving pools, a Fitness Suite, Sports Hall, Indoor Football Pitch, Indoor & Outdoor Athletics arenas, Squash Courts, Exercise Studios, a Water-Based Hockey Pitch, Seminar Rooms, a crèche & cafés. All sports facilities & the cafés & crèche are open to the general public. An extensive community programme is also offered with 85+ group exercise classes available each week.

Accessibility

Doorways are wide & mostly automatic, & flooring is smooth, flat & concrete throughout. All levels of the building are accessible via lifts & ramps where applicable, & Evac Chairs are provided for emergency evacuations of customers with mobility difficulties. All reception areas have accessible enquiry desks, which are continually manned. Accessible spectator seating is available at ASV & the Aquatics Centre, & the colour contrast decoration of both facilities enables customers with visual impairments & learning difficulties to navigate the building.

Accessible Performances

Carers are admitted to facilities and programmes free of charge when accompanying a person with a disability for the purpose of supporting them during their activity.

Toilets

There are large accessible toileting & changing facilities located throughout Aberdeen Sports Village and the Aquatics Centre. All have support railings, automatic lighting and low-height hand washing & drying facilities. Wheelchair accessible lockers are also located at each site. In the cafe area at ASV, the accessible changing room also has a ceiling track hoist system (although users must provide their own sling) and fixed height changing bench. At the Aquatics Centre, an adjustable-height changing bench is available.

Staff

All staff at ASV and the Aquatics Centre are friendly and helpful, and will endeavour to assist all of our customers where required. Specific Disability Awareness Training is offere to all front line staff including reception, catering, operations and lifeguarding staff. Our programme deliverers are offered Disability Inclusion Training and opportunities to take part in more specialised training to enable customers with learning, sensory or physical disabilities to fully participate in and enjoy our programmes.
