The Way we Talk (12A)
Adam Wong's moving drama traces three deaf young adults as they navigate identity, friendship and belonging, set in Hong Kong.
A soul-searching story about three friends, Wolf (Neo Yau), Alan (Marco Ng) and Sophie (Chung Suet Ying), who have different conditions of deafness. When Sophie graduates from the university and starts a new job, she realises she has been struggling to be seen as normal. Tensions grow between the three friends as they find themselves conflicting over how best to communicate with the world while remaining true to themselves.
The Way We Talk explores the nuances of deaf identity, challenges societal norms, and reimagines how language shapes who we are. Intimate, insightful, and superbly acted, Adam Wong’s sixth feature film is a heartfelt portrait of friendship, identity, and the search for belonging.
