From one summer sunset to another, a young art student encounters love, friendship, sorrow and beauty, in this touching Icelandic drama.

Acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Rúnar Rúnarsson, known for Volcano (2011), Sparrows (2015), and Echo (2019), as well as the Oscar-nominated short The Last Farm (2004), returns with a moving reflection on love, grief, and personal reckoning.

Set over the course of a single summer day in Reykjavík, the film follows Una (Elín Hall), a young art student who begins the day immersed in the glow of new love. But by the time the sun sets, her world is irrevocably changed.

Rúnarsson, whose work has earned over 100 international awards, provides a powerful story that captures the fragile beauty of a moment in time. With beautiful visual design and a hearfelt performance by Elín Hall, When the Light Breaks evokes the emotional intensity of a life suddenly altered.
