Overview

Thoroughly enjoyed our day out here. Although quite small, it was very interesting and had some lovely furniture and decor there were knowledgeable volunteers in every room to explain what you are seeing. I am not a big fan of gardens but loved the one here and plan to go back in the summer when there will be more colour. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view and lots of little corners to discover. Friends were fascinated by the pet cemetery but, as it was up steep steps, I didn’t see it. Would definitely recommend a visit

Transport & Parking

Arrived by car and parked in disabled parking outside the shop, 250 yards from the hall up a tarmac drive. There is a buggy to take anyone who needs it up to the hall. I didn’t use it but it looked big enough to transport a wheelchair or walker

Access

I used my mobility scooter for the first time and found some of the ramps and corners a bit tight but this may have been due to inexperience. There are ramps into all buildings. In the hall there is a one way system and some areas are quite small and only allow a couple of people at a time. The first floor is accessed by stairs but there is a small lift in which a volunteer will escort one person at a time. It will take a wheelchair or walker but not a scooter. There are a lot of level tarmac paths to get around the grounds. There are also a few gravel paths and one or two steepish inclines. The cafe attached to the hall has two rooms and I could get my mobility scooter into both but it was quiet so this may not be possible in busier times

Toilets

There are 2 accessible toilets 50 yards from the hall. Both were clean and had room for my mobility scooter

Staff

The staff were all helpful and understanding of disabilities. They went out of their way to make things accessible for me, sometimes taking me on easier routes than were laid out for others. They were often aware that people with disabilities were visiting and were ready to greet and assist. It would probably be helpful to let them know when you plan to visit.
