Overview

An amazing 19th century bank hall hosts the Italian restaurant. I went for breakfast and really enjoyed a cup of tea, a full Scottish cooked breakfast and fresh orange juice. Andrew took our orders and returned promptly with our drinks. The rest of the service was more leisurely and Lucia served us our food. The service was attentive but not intrusive. It was a great experience with very tasty food and in a good atmosphere. The only downside was the entrance/exit and the toilets.

Transport & Parking

I parked at Inglestone park and ride and got they tram into the city centre. The restaurant is about 5 minutes walk from the Princes Street tram stop. There is some on street parking on George Street and many busses along Princes Street.

Firstly I'll say they recognise that they need to improve this and hope this'll happen after seeing my difficulty. If you were in a wheelchair you couldn't ask for help and I couldn't find a phone number on their website. Perhaps a doorbell would have been helpful. My able bodied friend went in to ask about disabled access. 2 ramps were brought out but with a little confusion on which went where (perhaps a little practice as part of staff training). The first ramp up over 2 steps was not long enough and so very steep. I managed it in my power chair and the second was fine. Once inside it was spacious to navigate to our table which was the type where my legs could fit under the table while sitting in my power chair. Coming out was much harder especially on the steeper short ramp. I had to tip my self back so I wouldn't ground my feet before the wheels met the pavement. A 12ft ramp would be better and safer.

Toilets

This was easy to locate and enter but it was not possible to turn around making closing and locking the door very difficult. I was able to use it but anyone who needed to transfer from the side couldn't. The red cord was hanging unobstructed to the floor. I added a red cord card. Nice soap and moisturiser but hard to access the basin from sideways on. Not sure how this could be improved without major work to increase its size.

Excellent! Andrew and Lucia where friendly, helpful and smiled. Thank you.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would visit again and hopefully it'll be easier to do so. I visited specifically to do a review and so didn't have to pay, so thanks to the management for your generosity and keenness to get an honest Euan's Guide review.

The ramps in the correct order. First attempt! Easy to get close to the table Beautiful decor and especially the ceiling. Toilet door. Narrow toilet cubicle with bins obstructing too narrow a transfer space. Very tight fit. Beautiful interior.
