Venue Description

Creative Workspace is a community art centre with a pop-up community cafe in south Bristol. Run by theatre and community arts company Brave Bold Drama, Creative Workspace runs regular groups for families with young children on Tuesdays and Friday mornings 10am-12noon, and hosts family arts events and drop-off workshops for children aged 6-12 in school holidays and at weekends. Our vegetarian community cafe is open 10am-2pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and is open to the public. Our main studio space can be hired very affordably by individuals, groups, charities, and companies and would be suitable for accessible arts activities, cinema screenings, parties, music or drama workshops...all sorts of things! We are very open to suggestions!

Accessibility

Flat entry to the building. Creative Workspace is a single storey building. The community cafe area is wheelchair friendly and there is an accessible toilet. There is one step down to the lower level of the cafe but we have a wheelchair ramp we can place down as required. Entry into the main studio space is also on the same level. There is no fixed seating so for cinema or theatre events so we can create as many wheelchair spaces as are required.

Accessible Performances

Our family theatre performances and family cinema screenings are all relaxed. We screen films using DVDs, and could provide a screening with subtitles if the DVD had that option. We don't yet have the capacity for captioned performances, but are working on this, and if required could also seek support to provide BSL interpreter for a performance. We also have a small, comfortable meeting room which can be a helpful break-out space for neurodiverse audience members who may need to take breaks away from the main event.

Toilets

We have one accessible toilet, with grab rails. It's large enough for a manual or electric wheelchair. Will update what the taps are like soon as can't remember if it's twistable or easy turn taps.

Staff

The venue is run by volunteers. We don't have specific training in sign language or accessibility but we absolutely do our best to make sure everyone is comfortable and have what they need.

Assistance dog facilities

Assistance dog exercise facilities

There is a small woodland area immediately outside the venue which would be good for comfort breaks for assistance dogs. We also have a water dog bowl and provide free dog biscuits in the cafe. To exercise off the lead, there is a public park around 10 minutes walk from the venue where dogs can be exercised off the lead.

Other assistance dog facilities

Water bowls available, toileting area immediately outside the building, free dog biscuits in the cafe.
