Overview

I asked a local business owner for an accessible restaurant / gastro pub for lunch. He suggested Johnstones Bar which within the small centre of Falkirk. Its in a modern 19 th century building with available access for a wheelchair or power chair, seating his mixed between stool, seats chairs and benches, my seated area was comfortable and spacious. 4 different menus available at times and days of the week. They also had a very informative website packed full of reviews. There a mixture of diners including families which gave it a lovely atmosphere- the wee ones having a fun time in their high chairs.

Transport & Parking

4.5

I was in Falkirk for specific shopping and travelled there by train from Haymarket to Grahamston and return, across from the station is car park with disabled parking. The main High Street is pedestrianised with sides streets with blue badge bays. Distance between the Station and the main streets / high street is 400m, Buses enter through this way and they are only for taxi and bus. No matter which way you proceed from Grahamston or the Bus stops, it’s uphill !. Lint Riggs is next to the one way bus system - with not so much of a climb.

Access

4.5

Two small steps to the main entrance, though when I was met the door they opened the accessibility door with a ramp and also for leaving. I did not notice any additional formats for menus but the attendance staff offered to read it to me.

Toilets

Fully accessible and modern toilet, large enough for a carer if required, clean, fresh and regularly checked.

Staff

Met at the door as they saw my symbol cane, asked what type of seating and table I preferred to use, given directions to the accessibility toilet at a table 5M that was spacious. Asked regularly if there was anything they could do for me, very attentive, on leaving they asked if I required a taxi or accompanying to local bus stop they directions to the train station. The Manager and the staff were brilliant, they were also just as attentive with families and young children.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This was an experience I didn’t expect, the local recommendation came from a tailor I visit in Falkirk. So well done JW Menswear in Coo Wyndham !.
