Overview
This park is located at the very top of a hill and is actually on top of a shopping centre! It’s a very peaceful spot with a great view of the Castle and parts of the city. The pathways are paved with tarmac and are set below the grassy areas which are raised higher than the paved pathways. There are a few seating options throughout the park, benches are placed around the edge of the park and there were some picnic-style benches with umbrellas near the shopping centre entrance. There was also another area with more benches which was off a pathway leading out of the park. This section had graduated stairs up to it where the steps leveled out with the pathway as you went up the hill. There was a small section at the top of the path where the pathway became almost level with the seating area and was the best place for step-free access to this area. The pathways to get into the park can be a bit steep as the park is on quite a tall hill. Once you’re up there though it’s nice and level. This felt really hidden away given where it was located and it was a really lovely spot in a busy part of the city.
Transport & Parking
The closest parking options are the two designated car parks for the shopping centre. They have a total of 30 accessible parking spaces available across the two car parks. Charges apply for parking in both and they have a height restriction of 2 metres (6ft 6in). There are two bus stops located by one of the shopping centre entrances on Castle Meadow. The buses you can get from here are: 23, 24, 42, 43, 43A, 44A, 45, 45A, 54, 55B, 57, X0, X41, X44 and X55. Norwich Train Station is about 1km away. It’s approximately a 15-minute walk, although there are some steep inclines on the roads. Those who struggle with severe inclines may find the walk is longer.
Access
The pathways to get into the park and inside the park itself are paved with tarmac and for the most part are pretty smooth. The main thing I struggled with was the inclines of the pathways to reach the park. As the park is on top of a tall hill, some of the ways in are up a steep path. The paths I used did have benches and spots to sit and take a break as you made your way up. As there are a few ways into the park, I’m not sure if this is the same on all the others too. It was a really peaceful spot with benches that were level with the pathways and didn’t require going on grass.
Toilets
The closest toilets are inside the Castle Quarter shopping centre, which also has a Changing Places Toilet. You can see more about both of these in my review via my profile.
