Overview

I give this four stars because the exhibition is pretty spectacular. It's called 'The Normal' and the first part is extremely minimalistic but hard-hitting in its exhibition - it has four boards of individuals who have told their experiences of sexual assault with one screen that features a musical performance linking with a particular story. One Sia song played in the background, lighting up the board which correlated the song and the story. Other songs included a cover of Everybody Hurts. The rest of the exhibition either is just as harrowing or visceral, or juxtaposed with light-hearted, intriguing artistry. Such as a 'honey' exhibition that demonstrates honey shown through a microscopic lens and how hypnotic becomes, how colours can be described thematically, subsequently ending with an emphasis on Black Lives Matter.

Transport & Parking

Nearby North Bridge / Nicholson Street / Chambers Street and also Lauriston, therefore loads of bus options. Might want to get off at Nicholson Street.

Access

2.5

There's lift access into the exhibition but it's really narrow going through some of the exhibition. These narrow parts didn't seem accessible and I think you would only be able to view parts of it. Getting in and out of the venue was absolutely fine - you exit through the Old College. Signage was great, there was some seating in large open areas but there didn't seem to be an alternative formats. Lots to view and lots of reading.

Toilets

I didn't use the toilets but I did see there was a ramp up to the toilet area. No idea if there's accessible toilets

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Everyone was wearing a mask and there was a one-way system. Hand sanitising and sign-up was mandatory. They were all very helpful.
