Overview

Every aspect of this small hotel, bar and restaurant is managed to a very high standard particularly from a disabilities point of view.

Transport & Parking

The rear carpark has a smooth gently sloped path through the attractive garden into the hotel. The double doors that open onto the car park do have a very short but steep slope immediately in front of the doors which can be a challenge after one too many ! My advice is to use the garden entrance.

Access

From car park to the bar, restaurant and Room 6 (accessible room) is step free and level. The doorways are wide and there is plenty of room in all areas for a wheelchair user to move without disturbing other diners.

Toilets

The accessible loo is adjacent to the other toilets and easy to find. The door is wide and easy for me to open and close from my wheelchair. Once inside there is plenty of room to transfer with plenty of supports and grab handles. The room has always been very clean on every occasion that I have used it.

Staff

As the hotel and restaurant have a number of disabled regulars the staff are very helpful. Pureed food is provided on request as are any other requests made to them.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

While over the years members of my family have stayed at the Ellerby I have not so I asked to see Room 6 and it's bathroom. The room is spacious with plenty of space for a wheelchair without restricting ones partner moving around the room. The beds can be either twins or a double bed. A mobile hoist (not provided) can slide under the bed when transferring. The firealarm includes a flashing light for the benefit of a deaf resident. The bathroom has a large bath alongside a very well equipped shower / wet room area complete with shower seat, support rails and grab handles. While the photo shows the shower etc it does not show how spacious the bathroom is.
