Venue Description

Accessible lodges with views across a private lake rated 5* by Visit England. The Tranquil Otter is a wheelchair-accessible site with an accessible woodland path which allows our guests to be up close with nature. The Tranquil Otter is located in Thurstonfield, on the Solway and is a 20-minute drive from Carlisle City Centre. The Northern Lake District towns of Penrith, Keswick and Cockermouth are within an hour's drive. There are "miles without stiles" walks within this area. The Tranquil Otter provides a great base to explore the Northern Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and South West Scotland. A private nature reserve, the Tranquil Otter has 8 lodges, each with a wheelchair-accessible bathroom and lake-side view. Each lodge is accessed via a ramp.

Each of the 8 lodges at The Tranquil Otter is accessible by wheelchair with the following features: - A short distance from the designated parking spot. - Step-free access from the parking to the lodge via a ramp. - Step-free access throughout the lodge including to the lakeside deck.

Awards List

National Accessibility Scheme Rating by Lodge NAS grade M1 accommodation is suitable for people who can climb a flight of stairs, but bannister or grip handles make this easier. NAS grade M2 accommodations is suitable for people who have problems walking, can walk a maximum of 3 steps, or need a wheelchair sometimes. NAS M1 rating Alder, Buzzard, Dunnock, Egret and Heron. NAS M2 rating Dunnock, Egret and Heron

Toilets

Each lodge has an accessible bathroom with a wheel-in wet room, a shower stool is available upon request.

Staff

Our friendly team are on-site Monday -Friday 9 am-4 pm. Weekends between 10 am-12 pm when testing hot tubs. The team and the owners are contactable by phone or email during your stay.
