Venue Description

Based on the River Hamble near Southampton we run Experience trips on our high powered motor boat. Each of our Full Experience trips is around 90 minutes long and ten participants can come on the water with us at any time, including up to three wheelchair users. Trips typically begin with a slow 6 Knot cruise down the River Hamble, to allow participants to get used to being on board, followed by time spent on the open water either Southampton Water or the Solent depending on weather & Sea State. We also run shorter Taster trips of about an hour and special trips including Halloween, Easter, Pirates for our younger guests, Sea Breezes for our older client group, Remembrance and we work with School SEND units to develop skills. All participants can drive, and we have specialist adapted controls to make this possible for people with impaired mobility, vision, or height restrictions. This includes those people whose disabilities are of a profound and complex nature. We believe no other organisation in the world can deliver a comparable experience to a Wetwheels trip. The experience is fast, fun and inclusive. This builds the confidence of disabled people, expands their horizons and opens their minds to new possibilities. It also demonstrates to able-bodied people what disabled people are capable of in a well-designed, supportive environment.

Accessibility

There is ample parking for vehicles in the large car park at the Marina. On arrival you will be met by one of the team and provided with a life jacket. You will then be escorted down the slipway onto the boat via a bridge which allows easy access to the boat for those in chairs. Those who are mobile can easily access the boat and for those who have difficulty in walking we can provide wheel chair transport - its all very safe and very easy. Last year we took out 2700 participants and there were no issues getting on the boat.

Accessible Performances

Wetwheels Hamble provides a very personal service. The boat is crewed by a Skipper and two crew so that all our guests are completely looked after.

Toilets

There are accessible toillets at the marina but not on the boat. We strongly encourage the use of the toilets prior to boarding.

Staff

All Wetwheels Hamble staff & volunteers are trained in First Aid and Disability Awareness. We are a volunteer led & run organisation.

Hamble has many dog walking areas but we would ask dogs are kept on lead at the marina. Please advise if dogs are to go on the boat so that we can provide a suitable life jacket.
