Woodberry Wetlands - London Wildlife Trust
Woodberry Grove, London, N16 5HQ, United Kingdom | 020 3897 6154 | WebsiteVenue Description
Woodberry Wetlands is a Nature Reserve in Hackney, London, managed by the London Wildlife Trust, as a haven for wildlife and people. It is free to visit and accessible to everyone. It consists of 11 hectares of reed-fringed ponds and dykes, and the delightful Coal House Cafe overlooking the reservoir. Woodberry Wetlands was opened by Sir David Attenborough in 2016, having previously been known as Stoke Newington East Reservoir. The wetlands are the result of a proposal by the Trust to enhance the reservoir for wildlife and open it publicly so people can access a high quality, natural space in a densely built-up environment. The site is owned by Thames Water and managed by London Wildlife Trust. The nature reserve is managed by a volunteering team who help maintain reedbeds, grassland and hedgerows through regular conservation volunteering workdays. A programme of wildlife monitoring and surveys is also undertaken. Opening Times: October – March: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (main Lordship Road entrance) 9:30 AM - 3.30 PM (Bethune Road entrance). April – September: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (main Lordship Road entrance) 9:30 AM to 4.30 PM (Bethune Road entrance). Visitor Information: Please note that during 2025, the main reservoir path is closed due to essential maintenance work by Thames Water. The site and Coal House cafe remains open at both entrances. - We encourage visitors to check the London Wildlife Trust's website for any updates on closures or changes to opening hours.Accessibility
Access is level into the reserve, with no steep gradients on the main wheelchair-accessible path that leads from the main entrance to the Coal House, and then on to the New River Studio. Seating is provided at various points around the route. A small section of additional woodland path is on an incline with steps on woodchip.
