Venue Description

Friargate Meeting House is peaceful oasis in central York with a large foyer with comfy seats, and outdoor terraces and gardens. Anyone is welcome to pop in for an (inexpensive!) cup of tea or coffee, or just to sit in quiet contemplation. There has been a Quaker Meeting House on this site since 1674, although the buildings have undergone many transitions since then. These days the building has level access, accessible toilets, and a hearing loop in the main Meeting Room. Quaker meetings are held at Friargate on Wednesday lunchtimes and Sunday mornings. In addition, we have a variety of rooms for hire, from large groups, to 1:1 therapy sessions.

Accessibility

The front doors are automatic (sensor / touch pad). There is level access between all 3 floors via a lift. Accessible toilets can be found on the ground floor, and lower ground floor. We have a number of gender-neutral cubicle toilets. The terraces and gardens can be accessed from different points in the building, but not all of them are level access.

Toilets

There is one large, accessible and gender-neutral toilet off the front of the foyer at street level. There is a baby-changing station in this toilet. The lower-ground floor has four individual cubicle toilets, all gender neutral, and one of which is wheelchair accessible.

Staff

The staff are all trained in first aid, and are happy to assist all visitors to the best of their ability.

Assistance dogs are welcome on the premises. Due to our city centre location, it may be difficult to find spaces where dogs can be exercised off lead.
