    About

“A splendid palace built by a smuggler” Gunsgreen House is an exciting visitor attraction loved by all ages. A must see in the town of Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders. Built in 1753 by local smuggler John Nisbet, and of John Adam design, the architecture of Gunsgreen House includes secret hiding places where smuggled goods were kept. Visit Gunsgreen and see the amazing ‘tea chute’- the only of its kind, where smuggled tea was hidden from prying eyes. Kids love Gunsgreen, dressing as smugglers they can complete the smuggling and rat trails, becoming a certified smuggler.

    Gunsgreen House

Although this is old house, it has been equipped for wheelchair access, and all levels of the house are accessible. There is a separate entrance for wheelchair users (could be more clearly signposted, and a pothole at the door isn't clever). The staff are friendly and helpful, signposting to a lift and making themselves available for access. Good to see a lift and access to such an old property

Disabled Access Information Provided by Gunsgreen House

    Disabled Access at Gunsgreen House

Our disabled access is not the most straightforward unfortunately, purely due to the nature of this being an old historic house. The entrance level of the house is from ground level on the harbourside (from which their is ramped access from the car park), after this their is ground level entry to the next floor via an outdoor ramp, and then lift access to the floor above. Our staff are very happy to assist.

    Accessible parking at Gunsgreen House

We have allocated disabled car parking spaces in the free car park which is immediately next to the house. There is then ramped access to the entrance.
