Eyemouth Museum

Eyemouth Museum is a small independent charity operated museum that shares the town’s fishing and social history through exhibits, artefacts and local stories. I only spent about ten minutes or so in the museum, mostly to speak to the staff about accessibility. As I did not have time to explore, this information relates mainly to the entrance and the gift shop and reception counter as you go in. I did manage to take a few quick photos and gather some information which some may find useful.

We called in at this little museum whilst we were in Eyemouth. It is in the town centre, very close to the harbour. Access was good, all on one level, with a couple of ramped exhibits. The museum tells about the history of the town, which is mainly a farming and fishing community. There is a lovely section about the 1881 fishing disaster, which I found really interesting. Not far from the museum, there is also the Widows and Bairns sculpture, which is connected to the same disaster and is worth a visit.
