    Accessibility Statement for Euan’s Guide

At Euan’s Guide, we believe accessibility is not just about ticking boxes. It is about people, their stories, and how things work in real life. That is why we approach accessibility from the perspective of lived experience. Our community of disabled people, friends, families, and supporters tell us what really matters, and we do our best to reflect that here.

    Our commitment

We want as many people as possible to use our website with ease and confidence. That means you should be able to:

    • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser settings
    • Zoom in up to 200 percent without the text spilling off the screen
    • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
    • Use speech recognition software to move around
    • Read and interact with the site using screen readers including JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver

Our website is designed to work smoothly on any device, from phones and tablets to laptops and large desktop screens. The layout automatically adjusts to fit your screen size so everything stays clear and easy to use.
Most pages, including the homepage and main menu, switch between a mobile layout and a desktop layout as the screen gets wider. The search page is a little different. It changes layout slightly earlier, on smaller screens, to make sure the map stays easy to see and use.

We have also tried to keep our language clear and straightforward. Euan’s Guide celebrates diverse voices, so you will sometimes see a mix of writing styles from our reviewers. Everyone’s experience is valued, whether or not it matches neatly with the social model of disability.

If you would like tips on making your device easier to use, AbilityNet has some helpful advice.

Where we are not quite there yet

Like every website, ours is not perfect. We know there are areas that need improvement, and we are working on them with input from people who use the site every day. A few of the current challenges include:

    • The map view on mobile devices does not always behave as it should at higher zoom levels
    • The tab order around the map is not as smooth as it could be
    • Some colour contrast issues remain, particularly in Dark Mode
    • Some parts of the site use language that may require a higher reading level than we would like

We treat this statement as a living document. As fixes go live, we will update this page.

    How we test and improve

In August 2025, our site was tested by Goss Consultancy Ltd alongside a group of people with a wide range of lived experiences including neurodiverse users, people with sight loss, and users of assistive technologies. They tested the site using screen readers, text to speech software, and different browsers on common devices.
We are now working through their recommendations in order of priority, guided by our pan disability group. Improvements are ongoing, and you are welcome to request a copy of the most recent reports at hello@euansguide.com.

    In summary

Accessibility is never complete. It is something we keep working on, shaped by the real experiences of the people who use Euan’s Guide. Thank you for being part of that journey with us.
