Eyemouth Museum is a small independent charity operated museum that shares the town’s fishing and social history through exhibits, artefacts and local stories. I only spent about ten minutes or so in the museum, mostly to speak to the staff about accessibility. As I did not have time to explore, this information relates mainly to the entrance and the gift shop and reception counter as you go in. I did manage to take a few quick photos and gather some information which some may find useful.
Disabled Access In and Around
Average
There is a step free entrance to the museum, though it sits on a slight incline. A handrail is installed to the right but it stops short of the entrance which is disappointing. The external door was hooked back against the wall. The second door is inside a small corridor which has a slight raise at the threshold and carpet on the floor. The door opens inward. The doorways seemed wide enough for most powerchairs. I only had a few minutes so I stayed in the reception area which has a small gift shop. It was spacious enough for most mobility devices which is appreciated. The carpet inside is quite thin which makes it a bit easier to move around when using a wheelchair. I did not see any alternative formats in use.
Accessible facilities: Step-free entrance
Parking & Transport
Average
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
There are five parking spaces near the entrance just across the road, one of which is an accessible parking space, meaning a marked bay that is larger than the others, although there are no hatched markings. Alternative parking spaces are located around the nearby harbour area, with few marked accessible parking spaces.
Accessible facilities: Drop-off or pick up point, Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
There are not accessible toilets at this location.
Staff
Good
The staff member I spoke to was very pleasant and directed me to the accessible toilets near the harbourside.
