Hope Cross Stables at Vicarage Farm Holiday Cottages

Vicarage Farm, Wheston, Buxton, SK17 8JA, United Kingdom | 01298 442033 | Website

Venue Description

Hope Cross is a new accessible holiday bungalow in the heart of the Peak District.  Designed specifically with access needs in mind, it has two bedrooms and a spacious open lounge/dining area/kitchen with a large patio and glorious views over fields and dales.  It can also be booked as part of our other cottages for groups of up to 20. Highly energy efficient, warm and cosy, Hope Cross features a King bed en suite bedroom, twin bedroom with profiling and electric tilting single beds, large wet room, mobile hoist and riser/recliner and self propelling shower chair in a beautiful, bespoke cottage with hand crafted finishes. Other equipment can be hired and delivered to suit your needs.

Accessibility

There is level access throughout the cottage and around the outside, also to the other three cottages, laundry and other facilities across the road. All doors are at least 87cm wide, except for the en suite shower room off the king bedroom. The twin bedroom has a large turning circle for wheelchairs and windows at both ends letting in lots of natural light. It has a profiling bed and an electric tilting bed with optional guard rail and bed raisers. Both bedrooms have luxury bedding, wardrobe / storage space and wall mounted televisions with subtitles where available. The mobile hoist is a Molift Smart 150 - please remember to bring you own sling. The shower chair is self propelling and converts to a commode chair which also sits over the toilet. The walls and floors have high colour contrast for guests with visual impairment. Wi-fi can be turned off in the cottage for guests with electro-sensitivity - please let us know in advance if you need this. We can lend travel cots and high chairs if you need them - please bring your own cot bedding. The patio at the rear is 7.8m x 5.5m and is bordered on both sides by raised beds with planting of a sensory nature; the main view is open to fields and hills. There will be cattle or sheep grazing in the field behind the cottage at times; some of our guests have seen calves being born! As the fence is timber post and rail it is very important that assistance dogs are kept on a lead outside at all times so they cannot go into the field. There is a paved path around all four sides of the cottage giving completely level access. It is 1070mm wide at its narrowest point. Hope Cross Stables is extremely well insulated with triple glazing and underfloor heating zoned in the bedrooms for comfort & control and giving a very high level of energy efficiency. There is also a heat recovery and ventilation unit which extracts damp and dust and recycles clean, fresh air. The twin bedroom has an escape door to the rear patio linked to the alarm system which will automatically unlock for access if the alarm is activated. The alarm system has sound and light functions.

Toilets

The cottage has two toilets - the one in the large wet room is at comfort height (48cm) and accessible for right hand transfers with grab rails on both sides of the toilet; we also have a self propelling commode/shower chair which sits over the toilet. The basin in the wet room is accessible for wheelchairs with grab handles on the underside. The second toilet is in the en suite off the double bedroom and at standard height (42cm); this is a smaller room and so is not accessible for wheelchairs.

Assistance dog facilities

Assistance dog exercise facilities

Lots of great walks in all directions; off road we have the Monsal Trail just a short drive away at Miller's Dale. There is a grass area in the garden to the side of the cottage - please be sure to clean up after your dog!

Other assistance dog facilities

The cottage is in a lovely farming hamlet with livestock in the fields all around. For this reason we ask that assistance dogs are with their owner or on a lead outside at all times.
