Good

The Novotel is a fairly modern hotel in Lauriston Place. It has nine accessible bedrooms. Five have roll in showers and the other four have baths.

Disabled Access In and Around

Good

Access in and around the building: The main entrance to the hotel has a rotating door. At the side is a standard wide door that can be used for wheelchair access. Once inside there is a large open area with the reception to one side, the lifts, and seating areas. The reception has a dropped section for easier access. Access in the accessible bedrooms and bathrooms: The accessible rooms were spacious once you passed by the bathroom door. I find the distance between the end of the bed and the fitting tight to pass though the gap with my powerchair. My chair is 68cm wide and 116 cm in length; so other wheelchairs may be fine. The room was bright and spacious once you were in. Access in the dining area: The dining area was on the ground floor next to the lifts and reception. The furniture is moveable to provide ample space for wheelchair access. Access to other facilities: The hotel has a small gym and swimming pool. The swimming pool has an accessible changing room.

Parking & Transport

Excellent

The hotel does have the benefit of an underground car park. Disabled guests can arrange to use this by contacting the hotel in advance of their stay. Lauriston Place is served by several Lothian bus services; all of which have wheelchair access.

Accessible Toilets

Good

There is an accessible toilet adjacent to the gym area. It was large and also doubled as a baby change unit.

Staff

Excellent

Staff are friendly and helpful. It’s the sort of hotel well a call to arrange what works for you would be well received.
