Overview

The Compass has just undergone a refurbishment and the new, second entrance has improved the access to the venue. Overall, the staff are welcoming and the restaurant is comfortable. Access is generally okay, although a large part of the restaurant is up a set of stairs, therefore if you require level access it may be a good idea to book a table on the ground floor in advance.

Transport & Parking

3.5

There is on street parking all around this area, however public transport is probably easier in this location. The number 16 Lothian bus stops close by the restaurant, and there are dropped kerbs at the road crossings.

Access

3

It is a little unclear from outside, but the second (new) entrance is wide and flat, whereas the original entrance involves quite a high lip to get into the restaurant through a set of doors. If you go in via the new entrance (to the left) however, there is a smooth wide ramp into the ground-level seated part of the restaurant. We had booked in advance for 8 people as there are not many large tables on the ground floor. The bar is high, but the restaurant offers table service. The floor is wooden, and most chairs are moveable which is good for wheelchair access.

Toilets

2.5

The accessible toilet is in quite a tight corner of the restaurant and the door opens outward at an awkward angle. Wheelchair users may require some assistance getting into the room. Inside, the toilet is spacious, however there is no emergency red cord and the hand dryer is on the opposite wall from the sink which isn't ideal. It is clean and tidy however, and there are no oversized bins which is good.

Staff

3.5

The waitress who met us was very friendly and helpful, and the staff were happy to book our table over the phone.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

It's a good restaurant for a quick bite to eat if you're in the area, although if you require ground-level access I would recommend booking in advance.
