Venue Description

The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, London’s first home for abandoned children, and of three major figures in British history: its campaigning founder the philanthropist Thomas Coram, the artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel. The Museum’s nationally-important collections are housed in a restored and refurbished building adjacent to the original site of the Hospital, which is now Coram Fields children’s playground near Russell Square. The Foundling Museum is a registered charity (no.1071167)

Accessibility

Visitors with disabilities are entitled to the concessionary rate. Carers of those with disabilities are admitted free of charge. Visitors with a Blue Badge for disabled parking may park on the single yellow line for up to 3 hours or in the residents' bays outside the Museum entrance. Blue Badges must be displayed at all times. The Museum has ramped access, a lift to all floors, accessible toilets with baby-changing facilities and a cloakroom. A wheelchair, facilities for guide dogs, large print interpretation texts and magnifying glasses are also available on request.

Toilets

Wheelchair-accessible toilets are located on the Lower Ground and Ground floors.

Staff

Three members of staff have received Audio Description training. Some volunteers and staff have attended Access Awareness courses. With advance notice, the Museum offers guided gallery visits to children and adults with learning difficulties and physical impairment, including touch tours for those with visual impairment/registered blind. This service is also offered to visitors with hearing impairments/registered deaf, although the Museum cannot provide BSL interpretation.

Visitors with service dogs can exercise them in Brunswick Square which is just across the road from the Museum. Water for any dog is available on request.
