    Magnificent historic location

The Royal Albert Dock is a historic dockyard located on the River Mersey. It has lots of shops, cafés, restaurants and even museums to visit. Originally called just Albert Dock, it opened in 1837, so there were some parts that were tricky to navigate in my wheelchair because of the old paving stones and cobbles. It was given the royal charter in 2018 and so became Royal Albert Dock. For the most part I was impressed by the accessibility of the dock, I was able to wheel around the entire dockyard and I was able to enter and exit through all of the entrances that I found along my way. There was even an accessible toilet available. Most of the shops, cafés and restaurants seemed accessible to get into, some of them had upstairs areas but it was unclear if all of them had lifts inside. One of the shops I went into did have a lift but I didn’t go into every location. I ended up visiting Royal Albert Dock a couple of times while I was in Liverpool as it was such a lovely location. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

    Lots to do

There are lots of things to do at the dock. Shops, eating places, a ferrous wheel/eye, art galleries. This is also where the Beatles experience is located and the Liver buildings are nearby. There is plenty of parking, including disabled spaces. However, blue badge holders still need to pay, and a 5hr period was £10. Everywhere is wheelchair accessible, including the Eye. The Eye is worth going on, as you can see a lot of Liverpool.

Comfy Tours coach trip group having fun in Liverpool

Everyone had fun, It was a very social day full of lots of laughs, Liverpool Albert docks has a great vibe with lots to do, there was live music, variety of shops and so on. The group loved the boat experience Woodside Cafe is spacious to move around and the U boat is free with boat ticket to have a look at, It is in 3 pieces so you can see inside no climbing on board to do so, be warned to get to and from the pier there is a steep incline, 2 of our passengers chose to do it using a walker, they still wanted to do it and said it was worth it but it did look like hard work for them, one gentlemen was in wheelchair and myself as tour assistant and his wife pushed him up also 2 people in group with sturdy mobility scooters found it no problem and another gentlemen with a light weight scooter that had been playing up on him needed a bit of assistance.
