Overview
https://www.gijon.es/en/directorio/asturias-railway-museum This review is part of a series of reviews I've written about my stay in Gijón, a town in northern Spain with good accessibility. The railway museum is no exception, with almost everything being on the ground floor at street level. Housed in a former station, the museum features examples of old steam engines and carriages, plus display cases explaining how the railway workers lived and how various pieces of equipment worked. Unlike most other places I visited in the area, there was English as well as Spanish on the information boards, which were clearly displayed at a level suitable for wheelchair-users. I got the impression that the museum had been fairly recently set up, as it met modern standards and didn't have any dark corners with dog-eared displays like, say York railway museum (although to be fair, that is much bigger and comes with a shop and cafe). Anyway, I liked it; definitely worth dropping in one day if you're staying in Gijón for the accessible beach.
Transport & Parking
I don't think there was any parking; I went there on my scooter from our hotel
Access
I could see most things and got around easily on my scooter, although I couldn't climb up into the historic train carriages.
Toilets
I think accessible loos were on offer, but I can't really rate them because I didn't use them
Staff
Didn't see a lot of staff, but there was a guy at the entrance who was pleasant enough when issuing our free tickets
