Overview
Me and my partner went for our 2 year anniversary. We did the overnight ghost hunting experience, which is supposed to be £50 pp however, carers get their ticket completely free which was a lovely surprise! When we first got there we were immediately met with a warm welcome from two lovely guides. They both seemed extremely passionate about where they worked. They told us straight away what was going to happen as there was a lot of moving around to different rooms. They made sure we knew where the lifts were and made sure that we felt comfortable operating them ourselves. When we were booking the tickets I had a look at the accessibility, which stated that there would be a few areas that I wouldn't be able to access. However when we were there we able to get around every part which is always a huge relief. Me and my partner love watching ghost hunting videos and shows online, we are both very in tune with the spiritual world so we were so excited to find a venue that accommodates wheelchairs. We both did an Ouija board which was very nerve-wracking, although the guides ensured us we were completely safe the entire time. Later on in the night we used an EMF reader to ask yes or no questions to who we believe was a previous guard who worked in the woman's wing of the prison. The whole time we felt incredibly safe and knew that if we ever needed anything or had any questions they would happily help. If you like ghosts or even are just interested in prison history I would definitely recommend booking Bodmin Jail, You wont regret it!!
Transport & Parking
The only thing I will say is the parking is a little difficult, the prison is up a hill with no parking at the door unless you park on the road. It says on the website that if you are able it is easier for the person that may find walking up a hill to be dropped off and then the other to go and park the car. This is the only minor inconvenience I could think of.
Access
As you go in to the main entrance which is step free, there is a disabled toilet on the left hand side, which I think is the only one in the building. There are two lifts that get you around to the different rooms. In order to one area there is a way that involves going outside and up a fairly steep and very bending ramp, which could be difficult if self propelling.
Toilets
I never actually went inside the toilet, however I knew where it was and it was very easy to find
Staff
Both the guides, Carl and Maddie, were absolutely incredible. They both knew all of the history for the jail, they were both very passionate about the place. They also very kindly let us use their spirit box to try out the Estas method which we have both wanted to do for a long time.
