Overview
A walk around the gardens here is truly delightful, packed with colour and delicate fragrance that fill the air, well manicured lawns, safe walkways, birds and butterflies that flitter bye, and typical golden Cotswold stones that warm the heart. During the 13th century, the land in Buckland was owned by the Abbey of Gloucester, but a manor was recorded here in 600AD, and later was even recorded in the doomsday book. It is now regarded as one of the most elegant country houses in the Cotswold, with 10 acres of land for you to explore. Standing next to it is the oldest rectory in England, dating back to 15th century, where John Wesley once preached. Buckland Manor is now part of the Andrew Brownsword Hotels group, with 12 other countryside properties, with 15 luxuriously appointed bedrooms, fully furnished with fine fabrics, and specially appointed antiques, all set in outstandingly comfortable rooms. The whole house is delightful, each room dressed to offer you absolute luxury, in very comfortable settings, brightly coloured fabrics, selected furnishings, and maintained to the highest level. The grounds here are delightful, and the chef grows much of his own herbs and plants that are used in their own specialities for a really interesting evening menu, and as you walk around the gardens, you will firstly be delighted by the ample French lavender that lines the paths, intermixed with gentle fragrant shrubs that please the senses. Today, we have joined them for Afternoon Tea on the terrace, a really nice sun trapped part of the rear of the hotels charm, and we offer top marks for the treat, with delicate small hand made sandwiches, home baked scones, and freshly made tasty cakes that will please your tastebuds. If you have the opportunity, do make this a place on your list to visit and enjoy tea with them.
Transport & Parking
The countryside views are lovely as you drive towards the Manor. Sadly, the Manor is not all that wheelchair friendly, and although you can park your car right up by the Manor, if you cannot walk or climb steps, you have quite a long push ahead for your carer, as you need to take to the paths and be pushed right around to the rear of the hotel from the car park, which is a delightful route on a warm sunny day, but you will not be so happy if it’s raining, you will get soaked. You will then find a ramp in place to take you into the hotel itself, or just sit outside and admire the gardens. PICK YOUR DAY though, and it’s a treat. You will love the place.
Access
Not good until you get inside, then it’s on the level for you, and you can see almost all of the Manor, with very comfortable seating and delightfully decorated rooms.
Toilets
Reviewed on part 7 for you.
