Overview
Excellent, food was very good, well presented, with friendly helpful staff seeing to all our needs, the restaurant itself was very pleasant, comfortable, with an easy atmosphere, a most enjoyable meal experience, and ideal for our special 62nd anniversary occasion, well acknowledged by the team. “The Barn” relaunched by Coworth Park, is housed in the original barn, but modernised, and offers a relaxed pleasant easy and comfortable restaurant, where all are warmly welcomed, no matter what age, child to advanced pensioners, disabled or healthy, it’s just an ideal place to visit. During the winter7 you will find a roaring fire place, but in summer, the many windows flood the restaurant with natural light. As the barn puts it, they offer a glorious comfort food and hearty dishes experience. The ingredients are fresh and from the COWORTH estate when possible, you will find meat, vegetable dishes, fish, even from Cornwall fisheries, all delicately layered with garden herbs and spices. We feel sure you will enjoy the dessert menu, with a very nice barn trifle, baked cheesecake and soft ice creams. Then on Sundays, we have a Traditional roast with all its trimmings to look forward to, followed by sticky toffee pudding, or an apple and cinnamon crumble with custard. =============================== (Photos one and two) Guests of The Dorchester Coworth Park are treated by having the use of the “buggies” you will find at the main entrance and arranged by the team on reception for you. Simply ask when you need this support, and the Front of house valet team will willing drive you around the estate to wherever you desire. ( A small tip and thank you will be much appreciated ) ( WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TIPPING, AND WHY DO WE OFFER THIS THANK YOU ? ) All of us appreciate the help and support given by others, and we may wish to express that thank you as a reward by kindly offering an amount of cash to the individual who helped us. We also bear in mind that in many establishments the wages paid to staff are not always generous, and our tips are a way of making their wages a little more bearable in providing for daily needs. However, it has become the custom now in Britain to add a “service charge” automatically to your bill, usually around 15%, and when this is done, you may feel that’s enough. In many cases though, this extra charge is split between all the members of that team, so the person you wished to thank personally receives very little from that charge made. Therefore you may wish to thank the member personally, and this is a lovely and thoughtful expression of our thanks. It has been noted that nowadays, because we carry so little cash with us, that cards are a way of tipping, and in a lot of establishments this tip is thereafter given to an individual, but not always, but we have seen a recent trend that is fast catching on, where the individual you wished to thank, has an arrangement where you may offer your thank you to them personally via your card, and an app has been made available to them so that your gift goes directly into their bank account. Whatever next ? Of course this can only happen when there is a connection to WiFi available. otherwise its cash that’s best given. By the way, we remember that a tip must be declared to income tax, the government regard it as money earned. Sad isn’t it ? ====================================== ( Photos Three to seven ) It’s quiet a lovely drive from the hotel to the barn on the buggy, scenic and interesting, passing many of the “cottages” used as very nice rooms you may use for your stay, rather than being in the main mansion. The stonework used adds much charm to the cottages, as does the attractive pools, where you will find ducks or geese enjoying the water. Then you arrive at a lovely stone walled bridge that takes you up and over the pool to landed safely on stone flags that stand around the restaurant. ( Photo eight ) The Barn restaurant, beautifully constructed to add charm to the anticipated lunch ahead of you. ( Photos nine to twelve ) The Barn, beautifully appointed, plenty of seating and spacious. You wheelchair or scooter discretely stored safely out of the way, while you settle into comfortable chairs while selecting from a delightful menu. ( Photo thirteen and fourteen ) We needed to eat lightly today, as later on this evening, we shall be taking “Afternoon tea” in the main mansion. We simply chose a full plate of green olives, with a delicate sauce as a starter. Veronica then chose a light noodle dish, plain and simply, but ideal for a quick bite. Dennis selected a well prepared Haddock with trimmings, and a drink of our choice. A medium bodied white wine from Burgundy, France. Domaine Brocard, with its aroma of faint elderflowers and lemons. with an appearance of green hues, and crystal clear. Pleasant on the eye. The taste was pleasing, slight elderflowers, very dry, sharp, with a lemony finish, no lingering finish though, but an ideal wine for these light dishes we enjoyed today. We gave it a score of 7, a very good wine. Dennis selected a Mocktail, of Seedlip spirit, with country house flavours of berries, a hint of elderflower and nettles that offered a unique taste, and very nice too. The management then presented us with a delightful home made delicate cake as an anniversary gift, most thoughtful and appreciated. ( Photo fifteen to seventeen ) Front of house, Matthew, then drove round to pick us up, and via a very pretty ride, returned us to the main house. ( Photo eighteen ) You may be interested to note the other reviews we have for you of our visits to The Dorchester COWORTH Park.
Transport & Parking
There are two car parks you may wish to use, the main mansion carpark, or just a few yards further on, the second is the Barn carpark, both involve a bit of a walk though, not too far, and most will enjoy the walk anyway.
Access
To arrive at The Barn restaurant will involve an Easy enough push over slightly sloping ground away from the main entrance and over an attractive bridge, before entering the restaurant, which offers space for wheelchairs to be placed, or stored out of the way for you. However, for guest staying at the hotel, the front of house team will take you round on their “buggy” and return you after lunch.
