Overview
Looking for somewhere to explore the open countryside whilst visiting Dundee we ventured up into Angus and by pure chance found our way to Crombie Country Park. Expecting to find ourselves confined to the odd path or two we were amazed at how accessible the Park was with its many walks, amazing lakeside views, orienteering, picnic spots, woodland glades and so much more.
Transport & Parking
Full marks for the parking arrangements. Large clear signs directed us to the accessible parking area just beyond the Visitor Information Point in the 'Rangers House' and parking with plenty of space to deploy the vehicle ramp and get out.
Access
For a countryside venue we thought access and the thought that had gone in to making the Park as inclusive as it could be was evident. We parked up and wheeled along side the water for a quick snap shot. Then off to the information centre where the Ranger's House was ramped to get in, where there was an accessible loo just across the way, where the sign explained orienteering included wheelchair accessible options, where the picnic area was accessible, where wheelchair accessible walks were clearly way marked.
Toilets
Rustic but functional is the best description. The accessible loo is in a wooden building alongside the standard toilets. A pathway cross the grass to get to the loos or you can take the steps if you don't need level access. The surface to wheel over is firmer than it looks being some reinforced material under the grass.
Staff
We didn't meet any staff so can't comment.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We loved the peace and quiet, watching the wild life as birds came down on to the water, and being able to walk and roll some distance rather than a token few metres ... we'll be back for more!
