Overview
We were kindly invited to attend the festival, we went to an event, had our book club meeting in the Book Nook space and talked all about accessibility. The outdoor area, the hub of the festival has a grass area that has a path of plastic boards to make this a smoother journey. It makes carrying goodies from the food trucks to one of three picnic tables with two wheelchair spaces much easier. There are plenty of spaces inside to gather and meet with your book club, friends or new acquaintances. So much room to talk about books! If you are attending an event and want to go to the signing afterwards, I would recommend buying a book at the accessible book store in the festival ahead of the event, the shop will be busy afterwards. The signings are a great way to meet the author for a quick chat and to have your new book signed by the author. I think that makes the book extra special. The events are brilliantly managed by the incredible staff, they are so friendly as they guide you to your seat/space. Staff are throughout the venue and are happy to help. Let’s talk toilets. There are accessible toilets on every floor and one outside, A new addition this year is touch door opening which makes the experience so much easier, no negotiating door space. There is even a Mobiloo changing places set up between McEwan’s Hall and the book festival. It has been a pleasure to attend and I left light hearted after a brilliant day but heavier because of my signed books!
