Overview

This is a review about the excellent special assistance I received on my outward and return journey at King's Cross.

Transport & Parking

The railway station is a major transport hub, as well as trains, there is an accessible tube station serving several lines. There are also several bus routes that serve the station and stop outside the entrance or close by.

Access

King's Cross Station has step free access. The entrance doors were open and wide. There is seating with back support and arms near to the entrance. The special assistance desk is in the centre of the concourse and was not clearly signposted. On arrival I was a bit unsure where to go and had to ask staff for directions. The desk has a lowered section of counter. I was asked if I could stand while I waited for for special assistance to arrive, so I did, as I was not sure where the special assistance seating was. I was taken in by wheelchair to my train carriage. On my return journey I was met and taken in the buggy to the exit where I caught my bus home.

Didn't use so unable to comment. However, there are accessible and a Changing Places toilet.

Staff

Staff very friendly, helpful and supportive. On arrival I asked staff on the concourse where the the special assistance desk was and they gave me directions after first asking if I had booked assistance The member of staff on the desk was very helpful. The person who assisted me took me by wheelchair to my train carriage, carried my luggage and ensured I found my seat before leaving. On the way back I took an earlier train than planned (arranged thanks to Berwick on Tweed who ensured that special assistance at King's Cross was booked). I was met as the train arrived and was taken by buggy to outside the station where I got my bus.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Sorry about the lack of photos, but I find travelling exhausting and stressful, I thought I had taken one of the information desk. I had excellent support from staff at King's Cross and would be happy to visit the station again.
