Overview

Leeds City Stations has a Changing Places bathroom that is accessible before going through the barriers, so no ticket is needed. It needs to be unlocked with a RADAR key. You will find it easily by looking for the large toilet signage that takes up the whole wall next to the corridor leading to the bathrooms. Once you go down the corridor, there will be a recess on your left with two doors. The door on the left (slightly behind you) is the one to the Changing Places. There is a speaker for train station announcements in the bathroom, which can be handy if you do not want to miss anything, but it is also quite loud.

Transport & Parking

4

This being the only station in Leeds city centre, all trains serving Leeds will be stopping here. There is also a concourse with taxi drop-off and two disabled parking spaces at the back of the station. On the other side of the concourse is a multi-story carpark that also has disabled bays, including disabled bays with EV charging. There is no exception from parking fees for Blue Badge holders, though, so parking can end up quite expensive. There are a few bus stops in the vicinity, but none right by any of the station entrances.

Access

4.5

All station entrances have step-free access and automatic sliding doors. The station is split over two levels. The lower level is the main part and this is also where the Changing Places and other toilets are. The closest entrance is from New Station Street. If you enter from the drop-off/disabled parking area on Princes Square or from City Square, you will have to go up a slight ramp in the middle of the station, which has contrast and tactile markings and railings.

Toilets

4.5

There is a horizontal metal rail on the outside of the door to pull it open – it opens to the outside. There is another horizontal metal rail on the inside of the door as well as two coathooks, one in the middle right and one towards the top left of the door. The door locks by pulling the lever handle upwards. There is a dispenser for free sanitary products on the wall to the left of the door. The drawers are just about in reach from a seated position. The toilet is also on the wall to the left of the door and when I visited, it was shielded from view by two fabric partitions in metal frames that had wheels to easily move them. There is space for both a right and left-side transfer if the partitions are moved. There are vertical grab rails on the wall and moveable horizontal ones to either side of the toilet. The flush is a lever with a wide end on the left of the basin. There is also a red cord on that side that ends a few inches above the floor. There is a sanitary bin at the wall to the right of the toilet. The sink is a wall mounted sink with a lever tap and is not height-adjustable. There are vertical handrails on the wall on either side of the sink and dispensers for soap and disinfectant mounted on the wall above it. To the right of the sink, there is first a hand dryer and then a towel dispenser mounted on the wall. Below them is a large foot pedal bin. There is an electric handshower to the left of the sink, which was out of order when I visited. There was a sign saying it would be fixed soon. There are vertical handrails on the wall on either side of the shower and a vertical rail below it. There is a colostomy shelf to the left of the shower. There are no red cords by the sink or the shower. The changing bench is by the wall in front of you when you enter. It has padding around the sides as well, where it is raised. There is a dispenser for paper sheets on the wall to the left and a first aid cupboard above it, which is locked. There are instructions posted on the wall above the changing bench as well as a photo showing the ceiling track hoist positioned above it, asking that it is returned to that position after use. The changing bench has wheels and is height adjustable.

I did not encounter any staff by the toilets.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There is another disabled bathroom past the ticket barriers, down the ramp on the right and then to the left, but there is no other Changing Places bathroom.
