Overview
I joined this gym because I was looking for a gym that was accessible for wheelchair users, close to where I live, and was a reasonable price. At the induction, the gym had all the fitness equipment that I was looking for. There is a hand bike that has a seat that you are able to remove if you prefer to stay in your wheelchair. The gym would benefit from having a bigger seating area and the accessible changing room/toilet having a new and better quality shower seat, and all the red cords have a triangle at the bottom of the cord.
Transport & Parking
If you were driving to this gym, you would find five accessible spaces that are situated near the main doors. There is also a bus route that will take you straight outside the gym.
Access
When you get to the main doors of the gym, you are greeted with automatic doors and level access. Once you get into the reception area there are a few seats in there and the reception desk has a lowered section too. The gym has three floors that are accessible by two lifts. There is an accessible changing room/toilet on the ground floor. The gym has a number of fitness machines that are accessible for people with physical disabilities.
Toilets
There are two accessible toilets within the gym, one is situated on the ground floor and the second is on the first floor. As mentioned above, the accessible changing room/toilet also has a shower and a shower seat attached to the wall, and there are grab rails in each of the facilities. There is enough room for a carer and to be able to turn around in a manual wheelchair. The changing room/toilet has a red cord that goes down to the floor next to the toilet and shower chair, and the toilet on the first floor also as a red cord that goes down to the floor..
Staff
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They try and get to know as many people's names just to make your next visit more personal. On your first visit one of the staff members will give you a guided tour around the venue. They are very knowledgable about what equipment is best for a range of physical disabilities. The manager is very keen on improving what equipment is available. They were recently awarded funding for the Invictus Active Trainer so wheelchair users can join in with the spin classes.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
