Venue Description

Situated just a stone’s throw away from the stunning Swansea Bay coastline and just a five minute walk from the city centre, the Museum is ideally placed in the Maritime Quarter - full of quaint, interesting and historic places to see and visit. The Museum continues to fascinate our visitors with over 300 years of Welsh industry and innovation through our imaginative events and exhibitions programme. With a range of fantastic facilities, including disabled access and parking, wheelchair hire, a Changing Places toilet and a cafe, we cater for all your needs.

Accessibility

As you approach one of the Museum’s three entrances you will be welcomed by automatic, push pad doors. Once opened they will lead you into a venue that has level access throughout both on the ground floor and upper level. The Museum is spilt into two buildings, the old and the new, with the impressive Main Hall connecting them together. There are two standard operating lifts, one located in both sections of the building which are easy to identify and use.

Accessible Performances

Many of our exhibitions are provided with Captions and BSL and are all at an accessible height for wheelchair users to use with ease.

Toilets

There are two disabled toilets located on the ground floor and the upper level, both are clear of steps or ramps and are accessible for manual and a powered wheelchair to enter. There is also a Changing Places toilet, located on the ground floor in the New Gallery. The key for the Changing Places toilet can be collected from the main reception desk.

Staff

All our staff are extremely friendly and approachable and are happy to help at all times. Many of them have received the introduction to BSL as well as completing Dementia Friends training and Disability Awareness training.
