Situated in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire Museum tells the story of the history and archaeology of the region. The Museum is situated on the main road with a gradual approach. We are a member of the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme. The museum is based on two floors with lift access to galleries on the first floor. There are large print labels and opportunities for object handling in many of the galleries. The shop is in reception selling a range of gifts and souvenirs. Museum Assistants are on hand throughout the Museum to offer assistance.Accessibility
The museum is accessible to disabled visitors. Path to main entrance • From the street to the main entrance, there is level access. • The path is 1440mm wide, or more. • The path is sloped. Main entrance • The main entrance has level access. • The door is 1540mm wide. • The main door is sliding and automatic. The road from the visitor car park to the entrance is straight with dropped kerbs where required, the entrance to the Museum is on a very gentle slope. The Museum can be accessed by an automatic sliding door.

Awards List
We are a member of the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme. In February 2025 we were awarded the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year and The Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award in the the Destination Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards. We also achieved the Autism Friendly Award in 2025.
Toilets
Public toilets are located on the ground floor with level access from the main entrance. These toilets have a unisex accessible toilet which can be described as having the following: There is a flashing light when the fire alarm sounds. An emergency alarm pull card is to the right of the toilet. • There is a public toilet for disabled visitors. • From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access. The route is 870mm wide, or more. • The toilet door is 870mm wide. • The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the front only. • There is 980mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 450mm high. The toilets have handrails. • The disabled toilet is just through the main doors on the right, there is no ramp or stairs to get into the toilet.

The Museum is situated in a grassed area next to the church, guide dogs could be exercised in here. Many local people walk their dogs in and through the grassed area.
