Overview
This was a really cool and vibrant market in the centre of Norwich. There were so many different types of vendors here: food, clothes, flowers, pet items, jewellery, craft materials. It was really lovely to walk through. However, it was quite difficult to navigate as a wheelchair user. The market itself had a pretty steep incline. So going from the front of the market to the back I was going up quite a steep hill. The walkways were also quite narrow so with the other people walking around or waiting for food, it made it really tricky to navigate some of the paths. While lots of the vendors had displays or menus on the outside of their stalls, it was almost impossible for me to get inside any of them as nearly all of them had massive steps to get in. I also ordered some lunch here, which was super tasty. But the counters were insanely high which made looking at menus, ordering, paying, and collecting food all quite challenging. It was definitely nice to walk through and see, but I would say be wary of going at busy times and if you struggle with inclines then bear in mind that the site is set on a hill.
Transport & Parking
This was located in an area that seemed mostly pedestrianised, so there wasn’t any parking nearby. There was a bus stop where you could get a sightseeing bus on a road behind the market. The closest bus stops for other buses were about 300 metres away. You'd have to walk/roll to visit the market.
Access
The whole market was set on a hill which had a steep incline. It meant navigating the market was quite tricky as a wheelchair user, especially combined with others browsing the market. The market is marked with letters of the alphabet to help you find vendors. So there were signs which would let you know what was in row A, B, etc. This was definitely a good idea and would be really helpful if you were wanting to find a specific vendor. I didn’t see any vendors that had step-free access inside their stalls. It meant I was restricted to viewing what was on their displays outside. The vendors that had inside sections all had really big steps to get in. This also meant that food vendors had really high counters which made interacting with them really tricky too. There was some seating around the market, but not a lot, and it was all busy when I was there.
Toilets
There weren’t any toilets at the market but The FORUM is located really close by. They have two accessible toilets and a Changing Places Toilet so they are a really good option nearby.
Staff
The staff at the vendors I interacted with were lovely and friendly, but as it was quite busy all my interactions were quick and simple.
