Overview
Delighted, a place where dining is a must, a pleasure to behold. Evening calls, and we invite you to join us for dinner at their 5* star Hillfields restaurant and Bar. This, their second restaurant is as inviting as their main and existing Michelin star Latymer restaurant, but will invite you to enjoy a more casual experience, but with the added benefit of being in our eyes as deserving of the 5*s as the Latymer. Here they say they concentrate by offering produce from the Pennyhill estate as well as from the surrounding Surrey hills. First of all we must drag ourselves away from our very comfortable bedroom (photo 1) and walk along the warm and pleasantly constructed corridor (photo 2) and out and up towards the main hotel entrance (photo 3). Your carer May now push you along the delightful corridors of this beautiful hotel (photo 4) and into the Hillfields bar. Subdued lightening draws you in (photo 5) and you will find many comfortable spots to sit and drink (photo 6) During the day, bar nibbles, pastries and cakes made by the Pennyhill bakery may tempt you, but we settled by asking for a Tio Pepe aperitif, but what we were presented with was a most wonderful, and unusual aperitif, Thick, dark, full, with a delightful and unusual taste of liquorice with hints of chocolate, was it Tio Pepe ? We have no idea, but what a delightful surprise to start our dinner (photo 7). We were now invited to come and dine (photo 8) and entered a large, spacious and beautifully light and airy restaurant (photo 9). We were the first guests tonight, ideal time to be alone and take photos for you, while we waited for our first course to arrive. Trout at its best, rare, served with a delightful garlic creamed thick dressing, the best we poor souls have yet tasted (photo 10) While we await our next and main course, we can tell you a little more about Hillfields restaurant (photo 11). It was named after the first reference found to a piece of land here known as “Pennyhillfield” Breakfast (which we shall enjoy tomorrow) will be served 7.00am until 10am, then lunch may be taken between 12pm and 2.30pm, and tonight’s dinner is served from 6.00pm until 9.30pm. This hotel is more about relaxing rather than fine dining, perfect for couples, families or friends, but it is all the same, very stylish, with a service next to none. Our main course arrived, but we chose a light dish, a most perfect Carbonara served with mash and greens (photo 12) but even this was most filling. More guests now joined us, and a quiet but happy atmosphere now filled the restaurant, but still allowed plenty of places if more wished to dine here (photo 13) while we simply looked around and admired the deco, light but pleasant colours, nothing over fancy but welcoming (photo 14) Our desert arrived, well, for my husband, and a most enjoyable trifle, with fresh light cream, a lovely way to end our meal (photo 15). Relaxed, pleasantly full, we were invited to chose an after dinner drink (photo 16) and which we decided to retire to the bar (photo 17) and enjoy its comforts, before retiring to our room. A truly delightful experience, expensive as expected, but something we shall always treasure. Now though, it’s off to bed, concerned about what tomorrows weather may bring. It looks dark and worrying out there !
