Popular cafe in Hazlehead Park, Aberdeen
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair, Powerchair, Speech Impairment
Overview
I was aware, from previous visits that there were some steps in the forecourt of the cafe. Being in a wheelchair, I needed to know if there was wheelchair access. The message form on the website looked ideal for my question, but a lack of response from two messages meant I had to rely on my wife to phone. the answer was yes, the cafe was wheelchair accessible. The purpose of our visit was to catch up with a friend. It was clear from the busy scene that this is a popular venue. The low ceiling and wood-clad walls made it quite noisy. Too noisy for my iPhone speech program (Predictable) to help clarify what I wanted to say. But with a generous bacon-filled roll and mug of tea, I mostly enjoyed listening to the chat.
Transport & Parking
Going west out of the city centre on Queen's Road, turn left at the Hazlehead roundabout. Pass the first car park opposite the main gate. Head past the 'pitch and putt' course and use the second car park, where there are several disabled bays. Entering the park through the gates there was no prominent access ramp. It's tucked round the west side of the building. It was unmanned when we arrived. So my wife had to use the steps to get someone to open the door.
Access
Although busy we found a table.
Toilets
The disabled toilet is very cramped for a wheelchair. It was essential to have able-bodied helper to manoeuvre. But, once in, there were grab handles to help manoeuvre. The soap dispenser was too high for access for a wheelchair and the hand drier was inaccessible behind the wheelchair .
Staff
The staff were helpful and efficient.
