    About

The Umbrella Café is an accessible friendly café in the heart of town. From the outset we wanted to make it as accessible as possible.

We have not crammed the space with tables and I have had large electric scooters do three point turns in the space.

You can order from your wheel chair at the counter.

The café is accessed via a beautiful town garden, all level into the café and there is a standard disabled toilet at the Umbrella Centre.

A Changing Place is located at the Harbour Whitstable.

I feel so pleased to provide a truly accessible café which enables my family to use the space and feel relaxed.

    Cosy culture!

Disabled friendly venue with all level access through lovely secluded garden with gate. Very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of space outside in the garden but we chose to sit inside on the comfy sofa for our lunch. Style retro home with good healthy food and some unusual cakes! We had a bacon huffkins (like a bagel) & slice of sweet potato chocolate cake both very nice. Have been there many times for coffee and as a bit of a coffee snob I can say they make the best flat white and Latte I've tasted! Prices are good too. For Toilet facilities there is a disabled access loo (with baby change table) and mens and ladies all accessed via a door at the rear of the cafe or from outside through the back door to the Umbrella Center. The center itself is used by a variety of community groups, it is very inclusive and welcoming to all ages and needs, which makes a refreshing change to cafes today. I regularly visit with my 72 year old mum and 7 yr old disabled daughter.
