Overview
Thwaite Mill is situated on the River Aire on the outskirts of Leeds. It has it's own car park, but public transport options can be limited. There is level access into the visitors centre, which includes an accessible toilet. The staff are friendly and completely unphased by a disabled person. All of the other buildings, including the Victorian house, sheds, outbuildings, and main mill are all accessible from a smaller powered wheelchair or manual wheelchair. Some of the doorways have steep lips, and the paths are mostly cobbles and flagstone. Inside, some of the pathways are narrow with tight corners, but all of the displays can be reached, seen and interacted with. There is a lift that allows access to all floors of the mill. Normally, I would give somewhere with this level of accessibility a lower score, but honestly it gets points for managing to make an industrial revolution era, still-functional mill, accessible at all.
