A peaceful spot with great drinks New

Overview
Having only visited the busier, noisier Tinderbox in the West End, I was pleasantly surprised by how laidback and calm the Merchant City branch is. It’s a lovely spot with plenty of plug sockets, making it ideal as a workspace. I had the cinnamon apple chai box. As someone who doesn’t drink tea or coffee, it was a brilliant alternative. I’d absolutely return for the drinks and relaxed atmosphere!
Transport & Parking
We visited during a major cycling event when roads were closed, but normally it’s easy to get to. Well connected by public transport and very walkable from other parts of the city centre.
Access
There’s a glass door at the entrance which isn’t ideal for access, but staff are very attentive. The drinks counter is right by the door, so someone always spotted me and helped. On this visit, a passerby held the door open too, which was appreciated. Inside, there’s a second floor (not accessible to wheelchair users), which helps ease crowding on the ground floor. On the ground floor, there’s a section that’s very dimly lit which could be tricky for those with visual needs, but there’s also a brighter space near the large windows that’s much better lit with big windows. Unfortunately, the well-lit section is quite tightly packed with tables, so it was difficult to manoeuvre even in my compact powerchair. Anyone using a larger wheelchair would likely struggle more.
Toilets
The accessible toilet was either broken or locked - I couldn’t get close enough to read the sign due to the lack of space between tables and chairs. It would be great if this could get fixed soon, as this is otherwise a place I’d happily settle into for hours with refills of my cinnamon apple drink.
Staff
Staff were kind and quick to help with the front door. I didn’t have a long interaction, but the support with access was much appreciated.
