Cove View - excellent holiday cottage, ideally suited for me
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair
Overview
There are 3 cottages here -this review is for Cove View, which is suitable for disabled visitors. The cottage has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, including a ground floor double and ground floor wet room. It allows one dog. So it was great for us. It's comfortable and well appointed, with stunning views from the rear garden. Tea room and farm shop on site were really nice and very useful. Friendly owners on site. Loved it and hope to return.
Transport & Parking
Large car park but no blue badge spaces or designated space for Cove View. Could pull up near door to unload though. Car park surface needed care when walking as uneven and some areas of loose chippings.
Access
Although level inside, care is needed on the front approach from the car park - there's a lip up to the paving stones and before that there's loose gravel. So care needed if you are walking - plus a bit tricky with wheels. The kitchen floor is tiled so great for wheels but care needed with sticks or crutches as it could be slippery. Facilities and bedroom on ground floor, easy to get out onto patio (step down onto grass which slopes down quite steeply but I just stayed on the sizeable patio). Great accessibility.
Toilets
The ground floor wet room has loo and basin also. Non slip floor and handrails (vertical and horizontal wall mounted plus drop down rail by loo). There's a free standing standing shower seat (has arms but no back rest). There's a wall mounted heated towel rail - great as extra hand hold but care needed if switched on. Shower control not specialised however I managed to use it unaided even with my dodgy hands. Bar on back of door. Room to manoeuvre wheelchair I guess if shower seat moved out of way. Just be aware the bathroom is by the front door, not next to the ground floor bedroom.
Staff
Owners pleasant but not needed for assistance.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Whilst not fully adapted for wheelchair users, there's plenty of room to manoeuvre eg in bedroom, kitchen, lounge. The kitchen has full height work surfaces but at least there's a table. The wet room was brilliant. My only suggestion for improvement would be to create a reserved parking space near the front door and to perhaps improve the ramped entrance as the lip is a bit tricky. Otherwise great.
