Overview
Trinity College is one of about forty small colleges which are part of the University of Oxford. This review is as a day visit to the gardens and chapel only, I found it extremely accessible, however, I am unable to comment on what disabled access is like as a student of the college. I would recommend visiting this college if you are wanting to see a beautiful, historic Oxford college in a traditional designed with quadrangles surrounded by student rooms, chapel and well-maintained gardens and require step free access and an accessible toilet.
Transport & Parking
The entrance to the college is on Broad Street about a 15–20-minute walk from Oxford Railway Station. Several buses stop in the surrounding streets.
Access
When the college is open the front door is open and there is a sign announcing that the college is open to the public. There is a step free route from the street through the grounds, including some of the quadrangles, gardens and chapel. There is a ticket booth at the entrance where you pay the admission charge and then it is a level, step free walk round the campus. There are firm gravel paths. There is seating in the chapel and around the grounds. Some of the seating is on the lawn and is shaded.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is next to the large blue gate which connects the Front Quadrangle to the garden area. The toilet door was unlocked and didn’t require a radar or special key to open it. The toilet is spacious and clean. There are grab rails and an emergency red cord that reached to the floor. There was a locked cleaning cupboard, which was great to see as it kept the floor area clear. Opposite the accessible toilet was a fenced assistance dogs’ toileting area. I was told that there are some students at the college who have assistance dogs. Very impressed with the facilities.
Staff
I only saw staff at the entrance when I got my ticket and at the end when I left. Staff were welcoming and friendly. When I left, I feedback to a member of staff at the entrance how impressed I was about their accessible facilities. I was informed that this is something the college is very committed to and there are plans to open café which the public will be able to use and that will have step free access. The member of staff made a note of the Euan’s Guide website.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This is a beautiful, picturesque college with well-maintained gardens of lawn, woodland area and flower beds. Step free access and accessible toilet are excellent. Trinity College is well worth visiting.
